Glorior Belli: Sundown (The flock that welcomes)glorior_belli-sundown_the_flock_that_welcomes

7.7/10

Habakuk: Okay, why not. With a bit more playing time this could work. Black metalish instrument work, un-blackmetalish vocals. 7

Myrkrarfar: I can haz black? Tank you. 8

Cobal Caldera: Fierce yet fun, twisted yet almost beautiful: just the way I like my black. 8

Kvelertak: Nattesferdkvelertak-nattesferd

7.3/10

Habakuk: They do know how to write catchy songs. As usual, one to two per album seem to suffice for them though. 6

Myrkrarfar: The groove is mighty. All hail the groove. 8

Cobal Caldera: What at first stroke me as a silly rock album with blackish/punkish vocals actually hides lots of details to enjoy. A sound of their own, that’s for sure. 8

Vektor: Terminal reduxvektor-terminal_redux

7.3/10

Habakuk: I really want to like them just for the sci-fi themed thrash, but I still have a hard time with these fucken vocals and some of the spazzy parts. 6

Myrkrarfar: I don’t understand too much but it feels so right in mah balls. Also, the cover is fucking awesome. 8

Cobal Caldera: Complex, heavy, hard to listen, demanding and proficient, this record will definitely pay off, but it requires much patience. 8

Katatonia: The fall of heartskatatonia-the_fall_of_hearts

7.0/10

Habakuk: Quality Girl Metal. 6

Myrkrarfar: So much heart-ache prog pop, so many heavy & crunchy riffs. And Renkse sings better than ever. I heartagram the K! 8

Cobal Caldera: The contrast of the clean vocals over the riffs creates a huge effect, and the songwriting is flawless. I’d like to like it better. 7

In Mourning: Afterglowin_mourning-afterglow

7.0/10

Habakuk: They have this one song pattern that they keep repeating, but it is enjoyable time and time again. 7

Myrkrarfar: Music to put your dog to sleep to. Or just sleep. To. This. To? 6

Cobal Caldera: I do remember “The Weight of Oceans” was a great album, and this one delivers as well: progressive death metal that makes sense. 8

Grand Magus: Sword songsgrand_magus-sword_songs

6.66/10

Habakuk: In my opinion these guys can’t fuck up. Still I am having a harder time than usual to warm up to this. 7

Myrkrarfar: The Magus never disappoint, though I’d like to take my sword to that atrocious fucking snare sound. It must atone for its sins. 7

Cobal Caldera: I always thank the opportunity to sing along with a good metal hymn, and yet I can’t help feeling that I’m being forced to singing to these ones. 6

Behexen: The poisonous pathbehexen-the_poisonous_path

6.3/10

Habakuk: Yes, sluggish but deadly black/death. Especially deadly. Death. 8

Myrkrarfar: To Behexen or not to Behexen? To Behexen. 7

Cobal Caldera: Completely indistinct black metal songs one after the other with the plus of annoying vocals. 4

Discharge: End of daysdischarge-end_of_days

5.3/10

Habakuk: dbeatdbeatdbeatdbeatdbeatdbeatdbeatdbeat arllarlalrl! 8

Myrkrarfar: Lots of energy and not so many lots of songwriting. 4

Cobal Caldera: “Solid” is the first adjective that comes to my mind when trying to critique this one, but then only two tracks made it to the playlist. On second thoughts, this is a rather monotonous attempt to repeat the greatness of their first full-length. 4

Destruction: Under attackdestruction-under_attack

5.3/10

Habakuk: Hm hm hm. At least they didn’t fuck up the Thrash Attack rehash. 6

Myrkrarfar: Yes, they made “Eternal Devastation”. No, this ain’t awesome. 5

Cobal Caldera: Good thrash I can perfectly live without. 5

Death Angel: The evil dividedeath_angel-the_evil_divide

5.0/10

Habakuk: Can’t say this is bad, but I never have understood the appeal of these vocals. Could easily be mistaken with Destruction. 6

Myrkrarfar: Yes, they made “The Ultra-Violence”. No, this ain’t awesome. 5

Cobal Caldera: I’d much rather listen to Destruction. 4

Illdisposed: Grey sky over black townilldisposed-grey_sky_over_black_town

5.0/10

Habakuk: The vocals. Weren’t they the legendary thing about Illdisposed in the past? 5

Myrkrarfar: Dog want bone! Woof woof! Stupid dog. Dog sit! Good boy. 5

Cobal Caldera: I have nothing against this album, and yet only one song really did something for me. That can’t be good, right? 5

Fallujah: Dreamlessfallujah-dreamless

4.7/10

Habakuk: The UN’s demanding an immediate ceasefire // Will Iran stop bombing Basra? // Will Iraq quit the air raids in Teheran and Hamadan? // Will the superpowers be very careful? //

Stop the bloody war now, lets go for it // Everybody is involved yeah, // Support the Resolution 588 //

Yep, that band name will be similarly outdated. 3

Myrkrarfar: Dreamless? Fuck no; “dreamy” is a proper word to describe the mood of this album. Considering it’s a death metal album, I’m not sure that’s OK. But mah balls are. 6

Cobal Caldera: The metal-progressive fusion doesn’t work as well here. Pity. 5

Rob Zombie: The electric warlock acid witch satanic orgy celebration dispenserrob_zombie-the_electric_warlock_acid_witch_satanic_orgy_celebration_dispenser

4.7/10

Habakuk: Still around? 5

Myrkrarfar: The Zombie apocalypse is here. Bring out yer shotguns, chainsaws and flamethrowers – let’s roast this fucker! 3

Cobal Caldera: Rob Zombie keeps on doing what he does best, and he does it just as well. Expect purposely childish songs with an undeniable groove to them, and his traditional industrial pop metal sound. And a bit of sarcasm too. 6

Sorcery: Garden of bonessorcery-garden_of_bones

4.3/10

Habakuk: Oomph. I sense some sloppy death and crap vocals. Honestly, there are a MILLION other bands that do this better. 3

Myrkrarfar: Such Swedeath, much rip-off. 5

Cobal Caldera: Swedish death metal that I can respect, but that hardly will make it to my player ever again. If you’re a fan of the so called old-school… 5

DevilDriver: Trust no onedevildriver-trust_no_one

4.3/10

Habakuk: One of the better modern metal bands, but still a modern metal band. 5

Myrkrarfar: Devil, take the wheel. No? 4

Cobal Caldera: Decent melodic death that keeps a nu metal vibe to it I really don’t have the guts to stand. 4

…and here’s a Spotify playlist with the least terrible songs, as chosen by Cobal Caldera. Happy headbanging!
